How to register a marriage or a birth

HOW TO REGISTER A MARRIAGE

The British Embassy La Paz does not register marriages. For information on how to do this, please visit FCO's website under Marriage Abroad. However, we do receive Notices of Marriage and issue Certificates of No Impediment, which can be essential requirements for your intended marriage wether in the UK and/or Bolivia. To find out about fees and waiting times, please visit our Notarial Services page.

HOW TO REGISTER A BIRTH

For the purposes of consular registration, the informant should be the next of kin (NOK), or applicants themselves. The NOK can be a relative of the child such as the mother/father, husband/wife, and/or brother/sister.

If you wish to register the birth of your child with the British Embassy in La Paz, you will have to submit to the Consular Section the following documents. Please note that you need to submit original documents and one set of copies:

- Birth Registration Form fully completed. You may collect the Registration Form from the British Embassy in La Paz.
- Baby’s local birth certificate
- Parent’s marriage certificate
- Parent’s birth certificates, long version only
- The corresponding consular fee
