New visa regime for Bolivians (11/02/2009)

Following a world-wide review of visa regimes, the British Government has decided to require that all Bolivian nationals wishing to visit the United Kingdom, even in transit, need to be in possession of a valid visa.  This will come into effect from 18 May 2009.

This measure will affect Bolivian nationals who travel as tourists or to study for less than six months.  Those going to study for more than six months, or to settle and spouses or fiancees, already require visas.

“The decision was taken following a technical, objective, review of the immigration processes, including consultations with the Bolivian government, and we are very grateful for their co-operation”, said Nigel Baker, the British Ambassador.  He explained that the Government carried out this exercise with a number of other countries, some of who will also be affected.

The British Embassy in La Paz is the only site in Bolivia which can process visa applications.  Applications and payments must be made on-line, but all applicants must come to the British Embassy to provide their biometric data (ie fingerprints).

Further information on how to obtain a visa, and the necessary documentation, con be found on the website www.visainfoservices.com
